Interesting Hand Analysis?

Did you know that 0.7% of the worlds population is drunk right now? Or that 32% of Americans work while eating lunch? Or that 1 kilo of sugar is approximately 5 million grains?

I'm sure this will be interesting stuff to somebody out there. But the statistics that I'm bringing to you today are the last 5000 hands that I played on pokerstars.

There are plenty of programs out there which will keep a record of all the hands you play and memorize how you play them. I decided to install one and let it capture my playing style. Please bear in mind that these figures are not for cash games, but for sit 'n' go's and tournaments.

  • Hands: How many hands I played.
  • VP$IP%: The percentage of hands I put money into the pot when I didn't have to.
  • PFR%: The percentage of hands I raised pre-flop.
  • WSD%: The percentage of hands I went to the showdown.
  • WSDW%: The percentage of showdowns that I won.
So the first thing that stands out to me is that I consider myself a reasonably tight player, but the stats say that I put money into the pot in a quarter of the hands that were given to me. Is this pretty loose? I also like to raise before the flop when I have a good hand but discovered that I raised 7.5% of the times before the flop but went to the showdown over 12%, so I think I am limping in too much.

Possibly the most interesting statistic here is that from all the showdowns I went to I won only 46.52% of them. I need to tighten up and only go to the showdowns with the hands that I think I am going to win, instead of just "good hands".

But maybe the hand analysis matters as much as how many grains of sugar are in a kilo.
